Barcelona Day 8: Raikkonen sets best time so far
Ferrari driver Kimi Raikkonen powered around Circuit de Catalunya faster than anyone else so far this season, as the Italian team look set to be heading to Melbourne in better form than in recent years.
Raikkonen’s lap of 1:18.634 was 0.39 of a second quicker than Vettel’s best time he set 24 hours earlier and is 0.686 of as second quicker than what Mercedes have managed thus far.
Raikkonen set his time on Super Soft Pirelli tyres, while Vettel’s best the previous day was on Ultra-Softs.
Meanwhile McLaren-Honda’s miserable Pre-season continued with two on-track stoppages with Fernando Alonso in the cockpit which appears to be the same intermittent electrical problem that afflicted his teammate Stoffel Vandoorne ion Thursday
The Spaniard ended the morning slowest of all ten drivers in action, on the final day of testing in Barcelona, 4.1 seconds down on the top time.
Red Bull also showed some better pace with Max Verstappen second fastest on a 1:19.438, 0.4 of a second up on Mercedes’ Valtteri Bottas.
